Couch potato to 5k

Yes that's a real program, and yes I'm doing it! I've decided to start running. Who knows if I'll like it, but I'll never know until I do it, right?! I have a ton of inspiring women around me here who have run half and full marathons and it's so encouraging! So I found the program and I sort of started! I did it twice last week and will start again this week (due to the craftiness of last week((See previous post)) we didn't get to go out as much as we should have).

My goal is my first 5k to be in August or September when a friend of mine is having a foundation run. So wish me luck...and hold me accountable!

Funness

So my BFF (the same that started and encouraged my march madness and April projects that I didn't do!) came to visit last week. Thank goodness for cheap plane tickets (dirt cheap) and no work so we could play for a couple days! We managed to cram every second full of crafting stuff, which was SO fun. We did a lot of sewing which was great because it's been forever since I've done any and wasn't super confident, but now feel much more confident to tackle it on my own! Here's the stuff we did...it was fun because everything turned out! Maybe not our favorite stuff some of it, but good enough we can use it and it was fun :)

Headbands: SOOOO my favorite project. They were so fun and they are ADORABLE on the girls. (Dena has a 6 mo old daughter). More pictures to come in a different post :) (Ellie top, Kennedi bottom)



Then the next day we made skirts. We were SO nervous the whole time, but they turned out cute!! (Please excuse the messy house. I was busy crafting)



The next day were necklaces. We made the flowers and started the beading. I haven't finished this project yet, but it's well on it's way and I'm excited! I've never made jewelry and this is a fun one to start on.

After that was the t-shirt dress. I can't wait till Kennedi can fit in this, it turned out pretty fun!

Last but certainly not least was the rose belts. It was fun too, I wouldn't make more, but it'll be fun. Pardon the weird color...it's a gray/green linen that apparently doesn't photograph well in dark bathrooms. Who knew.

Then we squeezed in a quick photo shoot of the girls before we had to catch the plane. Hope the girls grow up to be best friends just like us!

Practice

So a friend of ours in the ward is a photographer, and he is teaching me some things and let me borrow his camera. Here's some stuff that's been going on in the past couple weeks!

SPRING!!

Bird of Prey

So I email my dear husband yesterday, and let him know he had a situation that he was going to have to take care of when he got home. Let's just say it involved a quickly slamming bathroom door and a pillow to block up the space under the door so this....THING could not escape. He laughed and there was slight mocking going on, though he tried to be nice about it. His co-workers also got a good laugh. I didn't care. Once he saw this thing, he would laugh no more. I even got a hard time about it from my mom (understandably, because she was the go to for trapping/killing/releasing things...sorry dad, but you know it's true!). And I have to say in my defense, that if Cameron is gone and I see something that sends shivers up my spine, I gather myself together and take care of it. Because it'd be far worse to let it roam free and try to have Cameron find it later. But this. This was not one of those times.

Ok, so it was just a bumblebee. But this bumblebee was the LARGEST in HISTORY. I'm not even kidding, I was afraid if it got out of the bathroom it would carry away my baby to the mother nest and then come back for Kai. And as proof that I'm not making this up, when Cameron finally got upstairs last night to remove the beast, he freaked out when he saw it and said (and I quote) "That's not a bee, that's a freakin' bird"....it was so large. We have since joked about the horse of a bee that was in our bath. Cameron was brave and took care of it...my true hero.

Stats: 2 inches long almost 1" wide and at LEAST 5 lbs. Ok, exaggerating on the weight part, but totally serious that this thing was huge.

A Child's perspective

Here are some pictures Kai took with my camera during the wedding. These are untouched and unprompted. They are exactly as he saw them. I have to say, I might be biased, but I'm pretty impressed!













I was asking Cameron for a point and shoot for my birthday and mother's day...but I may have to relinquish it to Kai! He loves it too much to not encourage it! A lesson in humility and love

It's amazing what your kids can teach you. This morning Kai was playing MarioKart on the Wii (our favorite activity to do together as a family!) and he asked if I wanted to play. Well he likes the battles and I like the races. This is how our conversation went:

Me: I'll play if we can do the races.
Kai: Well I really want to do the penny one (battle)
Me: Well you can play that and then I'll play when you want to do the races.
Kai: Mom, I want you to be happy so we can play the races. I want you to be happy.

If any of you were wondering I did play the battles with him, how could I not want HIM to be happy? Then when we were getting ready to start the game...

Kai: And mom, never give up. You can do it, you're great.
